Outpatient Staff

Darcy Higgins joined SPECTRUM Therapy in July 1990, is the Clinic Manager for SPECTRUM Therapy's Albemarle clinic, and is the Program Manager for SPECTRUM's Worker's Compensation Program.  Darcy founded and managed the SPECTRUM Therapy-Greene clinic from 1991-2001.  He has practiced in Charlottesville and previously worked at Fairfax Hospital and a sports medicine clinic, treating both inpatients and outpatients. Darcy earned a B.A. in Biology and Environmental Studies from Bowdoin College, where he played basketball and volunteered as a student athletic trainer. He worked for three years as an environmental scientist prior to continuing his education at Old Dominion University, where he earned a M.S. in Physical Therapy and Community Health in 1989.   Darcy enjoys farming, hiking, canoeing and fishing.  He is active in the Virginia Physical Therapy Association and is a member of the School Board and other civic organizations in Greene County. Darcy, his wife Kelly, their children, Chelsea and Conor and dog, Jax live on a community farm in Standardsville.

Mary Bridle joined SPECTRUM Therapy in January 2004. She is a licensed Occupational Therapist with over forty years experience. Mary graduated from the Derby School of Occupational Therapy, England with the British Diploma of Occupational Therapy in 1963. She earned a BS in Occupational Therapy from Queen's University at Kingston, Ontario in 1972. Mary has also received a Masters of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of New Mexico in 1981. Most recently Mary has worked at Virginia NeuroCare Inc., UVA Health/South, University of Virginia Medical Center and Blue Ridge Hospital. She specializes in upper extremity and hand therapy. Mary and her husband Alan live in Charlottesville and enjoy a wide variety of activities, including canoeing and gardening.

Gail returns to the Spectrum Therapy team May 2006 as the clinical manager of the Augusta Clinic. Gail has worked as a PT since 1993. Her previous work experience includes Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center, Augusta Medical Center Outpatient Rehabilitation, Home Health division of SPECTRUM Therapy and Nelson Clinic of SPECTRUM Therapy. She has a strong background in orthopedics, neurology and industrial medicine. Gail received her BS in PT from the University of Vermont and her BA in Biology Education from Plymouth State University. NH. Gail has taught courses on balance, running injuries, foot and ankle injuries, vestibular rehabilitation, pelvic girdle dysfunction and core facilitation exercises.

Jodie Stellern joined SPECTRUM Therapy in August 2002 and is the Clinic Manager at SPECTRUM's Fluvanna clinic. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Wyoming and received her Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Before joining Spectrum Jodie worked as an outpatient physical therapist at a local clinic in Pensacola, FL. Jodie has advanced training in orthopedics, pediatrics, neurological and aquatic therapy. Jodie lives at Lake Monticello with her husband and three dogs.

Susan Watkins joined SPECTRUM Therapy in 2003 as a Physical Therapist. She received her BS in Physical Therapy from Florida International University.She has a BS in Recreational Therapy. She has experience with patients who have orthopedic injuries, neurological and general medical conditions. Her specialty area is Vestibular rehab and she established the Vestibular rehab program in association with UVA at the hospital in Fontaine. Sue is the coordinator of SPECTRUM's neurological rehabilitation program.

Jess joined Spectrum Therapy team in 2006 after working at UVA HealthSouth Rehab. She is a gradute of the VCU DPT program and truly enjoys helping her patients become more independent

Laura Laffond joined SPECTRUM Therapy in 2003 and is the Clinic Manager at SPECTRUM's Greene clinic. She earned her BS and Certificate in Physical Therapy from Russell Sage/Albany Medical College and Masters in Public Administration with a concentration in Health Policy from Northeastern University. Laura's previous experience includes case management of worker's compensation at UVA Medical Center and Director of Rehabilitation Services at the Fallon Healthcare System in Worcester, MA. She has worked as a Physical Therapist for hospitals in MA and NY. Laura has expertice in work related injuries, general orthopedics, sports medicine at both a clinical and instructional level and is a certified Pilates instructor. Laura, her husband Bill, their children and two dogs live in Earlysville, VA.

Julia joined Spectrum Therapy in 2005 at the GReene clinic. She is Available at the Greene and Albemarle clinics. Her specialty is orthopaedic rehabilitation. Julia has a BS in Biology from University of Virginia and her DPT from Virginia Commonwealth University. Julia lives in Charlottesville with her husband and enjoys renovating their home.

Rebecca Schock joined SPECTRUM Therapy in 2004. She received her B.S.Ed in Education in Sports Medicine from the University of Virginia in 1992 and her Master's in Physical Therapy from Emory University in 1995. Rebecca's previous work experience includes the Program Manager at the John Jane Brain Injury Center and Physical Therapist at Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge and UVA HealthSouth. Her areas of expertise include extensive neurological experience, including post CVA and spasticity management, as well as, patients with BPPV. Other experiences include acute care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, community re-entry program for adults with acquired brain injuries and long-term care. Rebecca, her husband Corey and their two children reside in Charlottesville, VA.

Kara Mathews joined the Spectrum Therapy Health and Wellness staff in August 2006. Kara has worked as a PTA in Charlottesville since 1993, first at Atlantic Sports and Rehab, then for Brian Lambert, PT. She has experience in home health, aquatic therapy, strength coaching, orthopaedics and general rehabilitation. Kara graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS in Biology and from Northern Virginia Community College with an AAS in the Physical Therapy Assistant program. She lives in Charlottesville with her husband and two daughters.
